Finding the connection between the Aliottis

----Original Message-----
Dear Gilli,

I worked with my father recently and updated a lot of information on the family tree.  I use a French software called Heredis (Release 8).  I am not sure I can export it to a format where everyone would be able to make corrections (I’ll investigate).  If you want, you can have a look at the attached PDF print of what I have and let me know if you have additional information or if you want me to make corrections.  You can make the corrections on the PDF file and I’ll make the changes directly in my software and reissue a PDF print.  You could also post the PDF print on line and ask people to let me know of any changes.  I can update it regularly for you and keep the website as up-to-date as possible.

The real difficulty is finding the link between the Florence-Sicily-Chios-Izmir branch (ours) and the Corsicans.  I met Franky from Corsica and we did not make any progress.  The Aliottis living in the Sicilian islands of Marettimo and Levanzo, off the Western coast of Sicily are also difficult to relate with us; it would need in-depth research in Sicilian archives of the 1600’s.  Most of the Aliottis in the US and in South America arrived to Sicily from the Sicilian Islands.

Let me know if and when you are in France; it would be great to meet.

 Regards;

 Enrico Aliotti
France

d'Andria and Aliotti Families

From: Paul Ellis
Nov 2003

I was directed to the Aliotti genealogy website (on which I compliment you: it looks very professional). I have been researching the d'Andria (also sometimes
called de Andria) family for several years now and you will be aware that our two families were lined by the marriage of Georgette de Andria to Baron Edouardo
Aliotti. I had the pleasure of briefly meeting their descendants Livia and Maura in Rome in the summer at a d'Andria family gathering. It seems from your fammily tree that our families have several things in common: (1) Marriages with the Giustiniani, Dracopoli, Reggio and Pagy families (my own great great grandmother was a Dracopoli); (2) living in Chios, removal to Izmit during the massacres of 1822, partial return to Chios afterwards and (3) involvement in the Izmir carpet trade and the Ottoman Carpet Co. I do know know if you are aware that P. de Andria & Co., named after Petrakaki de Andria, Georgette's grandfather, was the second largest
exporter of carpets from Izmir in the nineteenth century.

The largest carpet exporter was the firm of Spartali with which the Aliotti firm seems to have been closely linked. I know this because I found four references to
the Aliotti firm in "Ottoman Manufacturing in the Age of the Industrial Revolution" by Donald Quateart. I attach the four excerpts in the hope that you will
find them an interesting addition to your sites literary review. If you wished I could photocopy the relevant chapters and post them to you.

I also attach for your interest two documents of my own making:

A Synopsis of the main incidents in the d'Andria history, arranged in the structure in which I hope one day to publish in the form of a book.

A portfolio of about forty connected family Trees showing the full extent of the d'Andria family as it is known. You may not wish to print them all out. The most interesting to you are likely to be Charts I, VIII and X showing line the descent of Georgette Aliotti (whose descendants are continued at XXXVI** which I have amended to show the details from your site). My own descent appears on Charts XII and XVI.

I wonder, if it is not too inconvenient, I you could send me a brief resume of what you know of the Aliottis particularly in relation to:
Chios,
The title of Baron,
Involvement in the carpet trade/Ottoman carpet
company,
Enrico and Edouardo.

(Anyone with information please post to Discussion Group)

Kindest regards to you (and to Maura to whom I am copying this, hoping that you are keeping well)

Paul Ellis

from Claude Aliotti:
Part of the Aliotti family left Tuscany and headed south with other migrating families during the Guelf wars , I believe. They stopped for a while in Sicily, which was ruled by the terrible Bourbons, and finaly
caught a passage to Marseille in France. This was the port to find passage to
then continue on to Kios and Turkey. I think it was Fernand who told us in a video we shot of him a couple of years before he died.

This is the story posted on the site. Does anyone know how he fits into the family tree?

Does anybody know of Claude Aliotti, a French painter from the
left bank, who I believe could be in New Caledonia? I would like to contact him because Claudio Aliotti (living in Rome) and I have a constant battle trying to decide who is the real Claudio Aliotti. So, another one in the melting pot should provide a bit more fun.
